- The coffee was produced in partnership with ASPROGUATE, an organic, environmentally- committed association that Upper Left spent several days with in February 2019 while visiting Guatemala cupping and observing potential partner’s growing and processing operations. Fuerza de Mujer’s coffee was selected in a series of blind cuppings as the finest of ASPROGUATE’s 2019 offerings, leading us to purchase the entirety of the lot.

- A cup that is clean, sweet, and versatile. A right-down-the-middle classic Guatemalan profile, this coffee can handle all extraction techniques but is most at home with auto-drip and espresso applications.

Fuerza de Mujer (strength of a woman) comes from a cooperative of the same name based in San Martín Jilotepeque, Guatemala. The group was founded seven years ago by women seeking new opportunities in communities that are challenged by the flight of workers in pursuit of lucrative day labor work in Guatemala City and the United States.

This coffee contains Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai varieties and is comprised of lots produced on very small farms — typically steeply sloped, of one acre in size, and located around 6,000 feet above sea level. Growing conditions are optimal as this high elevation produces a significant diurnal swing with hot sunny days and chilly nights, as well as an excellent mineral availability in the local volcanic soil.
